Alpine Meadows Lodge is located 6 km(4 mile) from Golden BC on the west side of the Columbia River. From Hwy 1, take Hwy 95 at Golden & exit right onto mainstreet. Take next right at signs for Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Alpine Meadows, & Golden Golf. Follow road out of Golden, cross single lane bridge & turn left at next intersection & follow Elk Road to the lodge. (known locally as red roof on West Bench).

Golden West Adventure Setting
Hike, mountain bike, canoe or snowshoe from our door at Alpine Meadows Lodge. Located on 150 private acres on the Columbia River, it is surrounded by crown land forests. Sights and sounds of nature are calling if you sit on the lodge deck, or walk along the Elk Trail to Cedar Creek. Alpine Meadows Lodge & Golden Golf Course are located on the west side of the Columbia River at the foot of the Purcell Mountains(elevation 2600 ft ASL). Kicking Horse Mountain Resort base is 1400 feet above the lodge and its Gondola/lifts climb to over 8000 feet & an awesome summit experience. Golden West has many trails and roads that follow the old CRL railway abandoned back in 1926.

- Travel in the mountains is challenging,how did the Canadian Pacific Railway & Trans-Canada Highway get through Kicking Horse & Rogers Passes?
- Golden is a meeting place at confluence of the Kicking Horse & Columbia Rivers
- D Thompson, one of the greatest mapmakers, explored the Columbia Basin in 1807-11, and Sir J Hector, explored Kicking Horse Pass in 1850's as part of the Palliser Expedition
- Finally CPR had a route when Major A Rogers completed survey over Rogers Pass in 1880's.
- In 1899, CPR engaged Swiss Mountain Guides, who permanently settled in Golden(1911), and commenced an exciting Golden Age of Mountaineering, with countless first ascents and classic climbs in nearby Glacier, Yoho & Banff National Parks
- In early days, the Columbia River was the highway with many steamboats travelling as fas as Jennings Montana via Kootenay River and Canal Flats
