Alpine Meadows Lodge
|

'At the five-year old Alpine Meadows Lodge, where we stayed, the innkeepers were yet from other places: Maria Graham is a native of Spain, while her husband, Irv, was a chemical engineer in the petroleum industry before leaving Calgary. Their 10 room lodge, just off the eight-mile road to the mountain(Kicking Horse Resort), is similar to several in the area, smallish and friendly, with a fire and magazines in the great room, handsome Douglas fir beams and bannisters, a hot tub and a casual European air. Staying at such mom-and-pop places felt like stealing, thanks to the vigorous United States dollar. Our four night stay, including breakfast each day and a three day lift ticket, cost just $450(United States) for the two of us.'
' High above Golden, looking across onto the face of the Rockies, this family-owned lodge enjoys a great location--removed from the bustle of town, yet only 10 minutes to skiing, golf, and tourist services. The lodge, which was constructed from timber felled on the property, has a central three-story great room, flanked by wraparound balconies and open staircases. A huge, two-sided stone fireplace dominates the living area. The guest rooms are light-filled and airy, with simple, unfussy decor. Outdoor recreation is literally right out the door, with paths from the lodge leading to hiking trails in neighboring federal forestland. The owner will make it easy to get you out into the wilderness or onto the fairways.'
